Important Dates for Parents and Families

Several important dates are coming up for admitted Kent State students, so we made a list to keep you and your student on track.

As we get back into the swing of things in the new year, we want to make it as easy as possible to inform you and your student of important upcoming dates, events and information. We’re committed to making the next steps of your student’s journey to Kent State a breeze!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Commit to Kent State! Students must submit their $150 enrollment fee in their  to have access to complete their Feb. 1 Next Steps and secure their spot in the incoming class.
  • Feb. 1 Next Steps: This is the first day your student can complete two vital, exciting tasks:
    • Register for Destination Kent State (DKS), New Student Orientation, which is a mandatory orientation event that takes place over the summer. This is where your student will sign up for classes. Your student can register in their  once they submit their enrollment fee. Parents and families are also encouraged to attend!
    • Students can apply for on-campus housing if they plan to live on campus or submit a commuter exemption form if they plan to commute through their . Not sure which residence hall to choose? Explore them all in our 3D virtual tours.
  • Admitted Student Events are by invitation only. Your student will receive an invitation to the email used to apply for admission, or they can access these events in their applicant portal.
    • Future Flash Day is our biggest admitted student visit day and celebrates your student’s acceptance to Kent State! On select Fridays from Feb. – April, this event is highly personalized to your student's major and needs. You will explore campus buildings, meet faculty and get answers to lingering questions. This is your family's last look at campus before your student makes their college decision. 
    • Next Steps Events are virtual sessions held in March and April to guide you and your student through important milestones, including their next steps checklist, Destination Kent State (DKS) and the housing application. We’ll also host dedicated events to help you navigate the next steps with financial aid.
    • Admitted Student Campus Tours are a great way to learn your student's next steps as an admitted student, tour campus and are a great alternative if you can't attend Future Flash Days.
  • Internal ºÚÁÏÍø scholarship applications through our scholarship portal, ScholarshipUniverse, are due between Feb. 1 and March 1, while external deadlines vary. This portal matches your student to over 1,200 internal KSU scholarships and 6,000 external scholarships. They can match by major, achievements, financial need, interests and more. Be sure your student checks their application deadlines!
  • 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): by Feb. 15 to maximize financial aid opportunities and qualify your student for generous KSU scholarships. Use Kent State’s code: 003051. Need assistance? Our financial aid experts are ready to help – visit the Financial, Billing, and Enrollment Center’s webpage for support.
  • Be sure to check your email. We will be sending important reminders to you and your student, and will provide information in our Parents and Families Newsletter as well.

  • Saturday, Feb. 1
    • Registration for DKS opens in your student's applicant portal. Students must pay their enrollment fee in their applicant portal to be able to register.
    • The housing application opens and commuter exemption forms are accepted. Students must pay their enrollment fee in their applicant portal to be able to apply.
    • Deadlines for internal Kent State scholarships in ScholarshipUniverse begin Feb. 1 and end March 1. External scholarship deadlines vary.
  • Saturday, Feb. 15
    • Deadline to to maximize your financial aid opportunities. Kent State's code is 003051.
  • Mid-Feb.
    • Admitted student events begin, including the very popular Future Flash Days, Next Steps Events and Admitted Student Campus Tours. You can learn more about these events on our webpage. Students will register via email invitation or in their applicant portal.
