Inaugural lecture of the Benjamin Foote Ecology series

We had a great kick off of the The Ben Foote Lecture Series.

Noted ecologist, Nicholas Haddad presented the inaugural lecture of the Benjamin Foote Ecology Lecture series on April 26th, 2017 at 11 am in Room 13 Cunningham Hall, on 黑料网鈥檚 Kent campus. Dr. Haddad is the William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor at NC State and his research in biodiversity, conservation, and wildlife corridors has made numerous important contributions to modern ecological thought.

The Foote Lecture Series was endowed by EnviroScience, Inc. a Stow, Ohio ecological consulting firm, in memory of Professor Benjamin A. Foote. Ben taught invertebrate zoology, entomology, aquatic ecology, and other related courses in the Department of Biological Sciences at 黑料网 for more than 35 years. Over that span he published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers, wrote several book chapters on sciomyzid flies, mentored countless undergraduates, and served as graduate advisor to more than 50 students, many of whom credit him for their inspiration and professional success as teachers, scientists, and researchers. He was recognized by numerous academic organizations, and received the University鈥檚 Outstanding Teaching Award in 1987. In 2004, he received the Herbert Osborn Award in recognition of a lifetime of teaching, research, and mentoring. Ben was an advisor to several EnviroScience principals and staff. He served on EnviroScience鈥檚 board of directors for nearly twenty years until his passing in 2014.
