Aeronautics and Engineering Professor Receives Healthy Communities Research Institute Fellowship

Dr. Hossein Mirinejad, assistant professor in the College of Aeronautics, has been awarded the Healthy Communities Research Institute (HCRI) Faculty Fellowship for the 2024-2025 academic year at 黑料网.

The HCRI fellowship supports one recipient to convene an interdisciplinary team of researchers to investigate specific issues related to community health. The team is expected to create and execute a plan to secure external grant funding for their research. This competitive application is open to Non-Tenure Track Research and Tenure Track faculty across career stages and disciplines at all Kent State campuses.

鈥淲inning the HCRI fellowship was unexpected, and I am truly honored by this recognition,鈥 Dr. Mirinejad said of the award. 鈥淭he opportunity was open to senior faculty and the review committee came from diverse expertise outside engineering. This opportunity showcases the breadth of engineering research within our college beyond traditional aerospace and aeronautics domains.鈥

Dr. Mirinejad鈥檚 project, titled 鈥淓nhancing Health Equity in Critical Care via Novel Data-Efficient Autonomy,鈥 aims to advance our understanding of optimal care strategies for minority patient groups and to serve as a model for integrating technological innovation with healthcare. 鈥淭he initiative鈥檚 goal is to reduce health disparities in critical care by enabling a novel, data-efficient autonomy framework for infusion therapy, specifically targeting ethnic minority patient groups,鈥 explained Dr. Mirinejad.

"This initiative underscores our commitment to cutting-edge research and positions us to attract significant external funding, furthering our mission to improve equitable health outcomes in communities."
