Education is key to sustained access to basic needs resources. The CARES Center works to educate students, staff, and faculty about basic needs challenges, associated support resources, and skill development for students.  

CARES Center: Basic Needs 101

This concise yet thorough 20-minute overview presentation can be delivered in a variety of formats. This presentation provides an overview of the CARES Center, information  about student basic needs, basic needs resources, and skill development opportunities for students. This workshop can be tailored for a student audience or a staff/faculty audience.  for your class or office today. 

Step Up Speak Out

Step Up and Speak Out is a collaborative effort facilitated by the CARES Center in partnership with Counseling and Psychological Services, the Office of the Dean of Students, and Police Services. The presentation is an opportunity for participants to learn how to assist distressed or disruptive individuals. In addition to what participants can learn during the presentation, each Kent State campus has a unique response guide with specific local resources. The response guide can assist you with recognizing behavioral signs and symptoms ranging from minimal risk to urgent situations requiring immediate assistance. Additionally, all Kent State students have access to a crisis text line and a 24-hour support and crisis call line to provide evening and weekend triage service and referrals.

Did you know 1 in 3 students experience food insecurity and 56% of students experience housing insecurity at some point while attending college? Research shows that in order for students to thrive academically and socially, it is essential that their basic needs are met first. Join us to learn about how we connect students to basic needs resources. This webinar counts 1 hour toward your annual Beyond Compliance goal. This webinar is ideal for Kent State faculty and staff.
