EmpowerVetEd KSU Grant

Supporting Veterans, Service Members, and Their Spouses in Teacher Education Programs

This grant application aims to support military-connected individuals and their spouses pursuing teacher education programs at ºÚÁÏÍø. Eligible students will be contacted for a follow-up meeting with a Veteran to Teach (V2T) Advisory Committee member to confirm their eligibility and assess their needs.

My name is Shaquille Williams and being a non-traditional student has presented its own sets of obstacles. In addition to the overwhelming schedule of being a student, becoming an educator allocates for a lot of the time out of my day. I was unsure of how I was going to make it through my final semester with student teaching and also cover my expenses of housing, transportation, and other bills such as communication and utilities since I would be unable to work. This grant has provided me the financial stability that was needed in order to survive for the final 4 months of my college career and I could not be more grateful. Again I want to thank everyone on the committee and appreciate all that has been done for me!

The grant can be used toward general costs of your education.

Who is eligible to apply for this grant:

  • All education majors on any Kent State campus
  • Veterans, service members, and their spouses

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis to award grants each semester, including summer.

For any questions or assistance, contact Daniel Diaz Nilsson, Assistant Dean for Access & Engagement, at dnilsso1@kent.edu or 330-672-1220.
