Reception Honoring Retiring Professor, Carole Barbato, Ph.D.

Reception for Carole Barbato To Be Held Before Award Ceremony

A special celebration honoring the career of Carole Barbato (Ph.D. 1994, M.A. 1975, B.A. 1971) will be hosted in 125 Taylor Hall, on Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. A special viewing of the May 4 Visitors Center located on the first floor of Taylor Hall will follow the reception.

The school will present Barbato with the Distinguished Alumni Award on Friday evening at the annual Centennial Awards Celebration, starting at 5 p.m. in the Moulton Hall Ballroom. The Distinguished Alumni Award honors alumni with more than 15 years of professional experience since graduation and who have made a significant contribution to the communication field with demonstrated success in their chosen career.

Barbato has taught for Kent State East Liverpool in various positions since 1974. She received the Ohio Communication Association Distinguished Teaching Award in 2006. Barbato and colleagues Laura Davis, Jerry Lewis and Mark Seeman earned the 2010 Ohio Historic Preservation Office, Preservation Merit Award for documentation of the May 4, 1970, Kent State Shootings Site to the National Register of Historic Places. The group was instrumental in the creation of the May 4 Walking Tour and the May 4 Visitors Center.
