Kent State Tuscarawas Wrestler Featured in Award-Winning Sundance Film on Netflix

Zion Clark, 黑料网 at Tuscarawas sophomore and Golden Eagles wrestler, is featured in an award-winning short documentary that will air on Netflix on Aug. 10.

The 20-year-old student from Massillon was born without legs from a condition known as caudal regression syndrome and grew up in foster homes until he was adopted in his teens. He was first introduced to wrestling while in the second grade and has become a wrestling phenomenon who overcomes obstacles and accepts challenges, both on and off the mat.

鈥淲restling opened a door for me when I was seven years old,鈥 Mr. Clark says. 鈥淚 thought it was the most fun thing in the world!鈥

The inspirational Sundance film, titled Zion, focuses on his early struggles and his days at Massillon High School as a young wrestler. Zion has won several awards, including Best Documentary Short at Atlanta Film Festival, Best International Short Documentary at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, Best Short Film at Omaha Film Festival and the Audience Award 鈥 Special Recognition at Aspen鈥檚 ShortsFest.

The film also is a nominee for Short Film Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival and Short Documentary Award at Sheffield International Documentary Festival.
