Louise Valentine discusses Fashion education in Four Seasons Magazine

School of Fashion director Louise Valentine, Ph.D. recently spoke with Mekita Rivas from Four Seasons Magazine, the in-house magazine of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, to discuss the current and future states of fashion education.

Rivas' article, titled "Redesigning Fashion School," explores how fashion education programs adjusted and innovated during the shutdown caused by COVID-19 and how they are looking towards the future. Kent State, as Dr. Valentine explains, embraced the challenges of virtual learning by turning towards digital pattern-making software like CLO 3D. Not only did the use of this industry-facing technology help students learn virtually during the pandemic, but it provided students with digital skills now highly sought after in the fashion industry.

Dr. Valentine also discusses the importance of diversity and inclusion in the future of fashion education. Sustainable change to the fashion industry, Valentine explains, will only be successful when fashion education programs inspire and work authentically towards creating a diverse next generation of fashion educators, researcher, and industry professionals.
