Meet Muhammad Naveed, the Three Minute Thesis Competition People's Choice Award recipient. Naveed is a Biological Sciences Ph.D. student majoring in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics.

Please give a short overview of your research.

At the , I use nanomedicine to find and optimize therapies against Azheimer's disease to minimize their side effects and enhance their efficiency. Earlier during my undergraduate studies at LUMS, Pakistan, I worked on developing nanotherapies against breast cancer and colorectal cancer.

What made you choose to pursue your graduate degree here at Kent State?

I chose Kent State because it offered comprehensive, well-rounded graduate training with its world-class research facilities, accomplished faculty, and well-funded labs.

What do you enjoy most about attending Kent State for graduate school? and/or What do you anticipate taking advantage of at KSU?

The graduate school experience at Kent State is great because there are lots of opportunities to plan and execute your creative research ideas. Although working, teaching, and studying simultaneously can get very exhausting, the Graduate College and the Department of Biological Sciences offers support at any point during the graduate school journey. I have also been very lucky to find support in the form of amazing friends in my program.

What are your future goals?

In the future I want to continue my efforts in a hope to one day find a cure to the biggest health challenges that we face today.

What does this award mean to you and how will it aid you?

I firmly believe that to test your knowledge in a certain topic, you should be able to explain it to a general, non-expert audience. Alzheimer's disease is personal for many people. Winning the People's Choice Award at the Kent State 3-minute thesis has given me great confidence and reinforced my passion to achieve my research goals.
