’s Division of Human Resources, Career Exploration and Development, and the Center for Adult and Veteran Services have partnered to bring a unique job fair experience for U.S. Armed Forces veterans. Working as integral collaborators with Kent State are OhioMeansJobs Portage County, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Portage County Veterans Service Commission and the Portage County Veterans Service Office. The “Serving Those Who Have Served Us” Veterans’ Job Fair is targeted to help and support Ohio’s veterans, particularly unemployed and underemployed veterans of Portage and Summit counties.
The job fair will take place on Tuesday, April 28, at the Kent Student Center. Fair hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the veterans’ resource room being accessible as early as 9 a.m. The event is free and open to all veterans.
There are three areas of emphasis in this job fair, all aimed at creating an empowering experience for veterans. First, the job fair creates unique opportunities for veterans to speak with employers that have specific job openings and are interested in hiring Armed Forces veterans. Secondly, it provides targeted resources for attending veterans to assist them in getting connected with services and programs that they, or their spouses, may be eligible for through the Veterans Administration. Lastly, the fair includes targeted presentations regarding the “nuts and bolts” of job searching, interviewing, résumé building, networking, building a LinkedIn profile and how to maximize GI benefits.
