Spotlight on Kent State's High School Journalism Alumni

In honor of Scholastic Journalism Week, Feb. 19 to 23, 2024, we caught up with Kent State alumni who got their starts in scholastic journalism. High school journalism and media programs prepare students for a wide range of college majors and communication careers.

Meghan Caprez

As communications manager at Walt Disney World, Meghan Caprez, ‘15, M.A. ‘17, shares stories of Disney cast members and the great things they do in the community through media pitches, press releases and social media content. However, her experience in storytelling began years before working at the most magical place on earth.

Portia Booker

Kent State alumna Portia Booker’s work in media began in the 10th grade at The Cauldron, the literary magazine at Cleveland Central Catholic High School. Today, she hosts The Grief Grantor TV show on e360tv and executive produces six shows. The 2016 journalism graduate has a background in TV news, radio and podcasting.

About 15 years ago, Audrey Fletcher, ‘15 was an entertainment editor for her high school newspaper. Today, she is the media outreach coordinator for Crossroads Label Group, where she helps musicians share their music and the stories behind their art.
