GRANTS/CONTRACTS (A SAMPLE):

Principal Investigator, “Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS)  External Stakeholder Grant Survey 2023.” This project consisted of a survey to potential external grantees both funded and not funded to learn what areas in Ohio’s criminal justice system need funding and what barriers to current funding exit. Additionally, and internal survey of OCJS employees was conducted seeking to assess grant fulfillment and area for grant funding improvement. (contract: $21,672.35).

Co-Principal Investigator, “Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC) Survey. This first-ever survey of the nurses serving on boards of directors sought to learn: 1. Where nurses currently serve, 2. barriers they face, and 3. What support they need (if any) in addressing issues regarding social determinates of health within their community. ($32,794).

Principal Investigator, “Big 3 Medicaid Project 2021 – 2022.” This mixed mode survey project sought to obtain Medicaid providers’ input as to process improvement initiated by the state of Ohio’s Medicaid program. (two-year project total of $123,648).

Principal Investigator, Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) “Quality Improvement Focus Groups.” This mixed mode project sought to follow-up on a survey with an in-depth focus group analysis of quality improvement measures at NEOMED. (Three-month project total of $10,818). More importantly, in-depth mentoring of both graduate and undergraduate student in qualitative research data collection methods.

Principal Investigator, “Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS),” for the States of Indiana, Maine, Maryland, and Minnesota.  PRAMS is a CDC-sponsored population-based surveillance system designed to identify and monitor pertinent maternal experiences, habits, and behaviors that occur before and during a mother’s pregnancy.   PRAMS projects require strict adherence to CDC guidelines for all aspects of data collection. This project calls for just telephone surveys for those not completing the mailed survey distributed by the State of Maryland Department of Health (3-year project; amount $57,374).

Principal Investigator, “Assessing Citizens’ Attitudes toward Law Enforcement-II.” As a follow-up to the 2015 project we conducted for the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services, this telephone survey of 1000 adults in the state of OH examines attitudes Ohio residents toward local law enforcement and law enforcement in general. This project also had a 1,000 adult respondent online panel survey assessing media messages. (4/05/18; $49, 981 and 3/01/15; $27,000).

Co-Principal Investigator, “RAPID: Capturing Behavioral Response and Perceived Risk to Ebola Using Social Media,” NSF rapid grant. This telephone survey of 750 adults in Portage and Summit Counties, OH will examine perceived risk and behavioral changes in light of the recent Ebola incident at ������ (02/2015; $41,000):http://www.kent.edu/kent/news/kent-state-researchers-look-twitter-responses-ebola-scare

Principal Investigator, “Health Assessment and Research for Communities (HARC) 2019, 2016, and 2013 (Co-Principal Investigator).” This repeat customer and BRFSS-like project sought to learn the health-related behaviors, attitudes, and needs (present and future) of 2,500 randomly selected, landline and cellular respondents (English and Spanish). Of the 2,500 completed interviews, 500 were “child by proxy” interviews in which the most knowledgeable adult was asked questions about the child selected for interview. Drawing from existing research, I developed a random respondent selection process that cut time for respondent selection in half (2013; $280,000 and 2016; $250,000; 2019 $248,000).

Co-Principal Investigator, Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services, Gambling Ohio Survey. This survey sought to establish a baseline of gambling behaviors and attitudes and consisted of five individual projects: Four oversampled county telephone surveys (Cuyahoga, Lucas, Lancaster, and Franklin), and a statewide survey of Ohio residents (Six-month project; grant amount: $180,000).
