Campus earns designation for eighth consecutive year.
A celebration of the earth’s natural resources provides the perfect backdrop to honor at Stark as a 2016 Tree Campus USA®. The Arbor Day Foundation and Ohio Division of Natural Resources (ODNR) will formally recognize Kent State Stark for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship at the campus’s Earth Day 2017 Celebration on Sunday, April 23 at 2:20 p.m.
This is the eighth consecutive year Kent State Stark has received the Tree Campus USA designation.
The campus community also will celebrate the designation with the planting of a new sapling by Kent State Stark Dean Denise A. Seachrist, Ph.D.
“We are very proud to receive this honor. Our students, faculty and staff are eager to volunteer in their communities and become better stewards of the environment,” said Seachrist. “Participating in Tree Campus USA sets a fine example for our community, as well as other colleges and universities, while helping to create a healthier planet for us all.”
Tree Campus USA was launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation. The program is intended to honor colleges and universities nationwide for effective urban forest management and for engaging students, faculty and staff in conservation efforts. Kent State Stark achieved the title by meeting Tree Campus USA’s five standards, which include maintaining a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and a student service-learning project.
