Last month we had a lot to celebrate with the Kent State community through our social media channels, including this year’s Homecoming celebration!
And because September was the first full month the blog has been online, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share with you a monthly recap of our social activity.
First up, Instagram.
Homecoming was a popular topic on all of the university’s social media accounts, but the top posts for both Facebook and Instagram were unique!
This beautiful shot of a sunset on campus posted by user @abhi_begale had the most engagement of any Instagram post last month, garnering 1,750 likes.
It is a beautiful sunset, isn’t it? But don’t worry Flashes, some of the other notable posts were related to Homecoming! Check out this photo from Front Campus before all the events started that morning. It collected 1,588 likes on Instagram.
We’re going to be honest, we were really excited about the Facebook post that ended up performing the best in September. We couldn’t wait to share that Kent State was named the only institution in Northeast Ohio on the Top Public Schools List in the 2020 U.S. News and World Report Best College Rankings. And you loved hearing the news! That post ended up receiving 1,444 reactions!
Another piece of content that performed well this month was the announcement of the new partnership between Delta Air Lines and the university, which you can see via Twitter below.
Finally, you may not have realized, but we cover events all over campus through our Instagram and Snapchat accounts. Last month, we were at events like: Black Squirrel Festival, Yoga on the Green, the "Culture/Counterculture" and "Wearing Justice" exhibit reception and the Fall Internship, Co-op, and Career Fair. But it was our Homecoming coverage that was the highest performing story.
The stories on our accounts featured videos and photos from the Homecoming Parade, the Alumni breakfast and tailgate and of course the football game, where the Flashes defeated Bowling Green 60-20. On Instagram, the amount of views topped out at 4,347 people and Snapchat reached 1,471 views! Here’s a shot of @KSUPresDiacon in the Homecoming Parade!
Overall, the university’s social accounts saw steady follower growth. Our Twitter account gained more than 300 followers last month for a total of 42,576. The Facebook channel increased by more than 250 followers for a total of 91,064 fans. And our Instagram account had the biggest jump, with over 460 new followers for a total of 23,231.
Make sure you’re following our social channels throughout the year for exclusive content from the biggest events happening on campus. And keep looking out for our prize give-aways!
