Between academic deadlines and extracurricular activities, we know it can be hard to keep up with an aesthetically-pleasing Instagram account. This is why we’ve compiled a list of the most Instagram-worthy locations to check out during your next walk around Kent Campus.
Risman Plaza
Kicking off our list is a spot in the center of campus. Home to the Kent Student Center and University Library, Risman Plaza includes some of the most commonly-used buildings for staff and students. The buildings are adjacent to a picturesque lawn complete with outdoor tables and a black-marble fountain. This is a great spot to get photos with friends or a scenic landscape photos.
Rockwell Hall
You don’t have to be a fashion major to appreciate the building that houses Kent State’s Fashion School. Between its high-vaulted ceilings, skylights and mirrored staircase, grabbing a photo inside Rockwell is a must. As one of the top four fashion schools in the nation, this busy building is open late during the school year so it’s not hard to find time for a photo-op. Get creative and take photos at events; this building houses one of the most extensive fashion history museums, a fashion library and FS², the Annual Fashion Show.
John Elliot Center for Architecture and Environmental Design
It may be new, but we’re sure you’ve seen plenty of photos of the John Elliot Center for Architecture and Environmental Design. And taking one look at the picturesque building, it isn’t hard to see why. Completed in 2016, the 110,191-square-foot contemporary glass-and-brick building was created by internationally renowned New York-based firm WEISS/MANFREDI. The interior is minimalist and clean, creating the perfect backdrop for endless photo shoot ideas. The building also has a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. Along with its clean aesthetic, the center features a partial green roof to capture and recycle rainwater, 131 geothermal wells (each 405-feet deep) to provide an energy efficient heating and cooling source and glass curtain walls designed to optimize daylight while reducing the need for artificial light.
Herrick Conservatory
This university lab and greenhouse is arguably one of the best kept secrets for taking pictures on campus. Created in 1968 by the Department of Biological Sciences, the Herrick Conservatory is used as a classroom but is open to the public weekdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Blooming all year round, this is a great place to snag an Instagram-worthy pic during the winter months. Inside, you can pose in front of succulents, flowers, tropical plants, green trees and a Koi-fish pond.
The Rock
The has been a long-standing tradition for students to express themselves. The tradition of painting the rock started in the early. Surrounding the rock, there are hundreds of trees and squirrels (of course)! Grab your paint and camera and head down to the rock to partake in this Kent State tradition!
Lester A. Lefton Esplanade arch
The arch is a great spot to show your Kent State pride with a picturesque backdrop. Located on the Lester A. Lefton Esplanade between campus and downtown Kent, you can find the arch during a scenic walk. The esplanade itself passes through a lot of university classrooms and features various sculptures created by the art department.
