WHY FINANCE?
Financial Planning
There is a growing need for financial planners – people who help other people build wealth and plan for kids’ college expenses, retirement, and other needs. We have a partnership with NY Life and Cerifi to provide training and test materials for the Securities Industry Exam (SIE), which is the first step toward a career in financial planning.
Banking
We have partnered with the Ohio Bankers’ League for our students to obtain free training and internships in banks either near their hometown or near . The program provides two weeks of basic bank training and then provides a twelve-week internship for the student during the summer.
Financial Law
We have partnered with the University of Akron School of Law, Cleveland State University College of Law and Case Western Reserve College of Law in a 3+3 JD program. This allows students to go only three years at Kent State and then three years at law school. The first of those three years in law school is applied back to Kent State to complete our finance major.
Real Estate
We have partnerships with several local real estate firms who perform research and analyze investments in real estate. Our alumni work in private equity and hedge fund firms like The Townsend Group and the Stepstone Group.
Investment Analysis
The Finance major at is a University Affiliated Program with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA™) Society. Finance majors receive scholarships for study materials and CFA program tests. From the CFA website: “An Affiliated University signals to their students and to employers that their curriculum is closely tied to the practice of investment management and is helpful to students preparing for the CFA® Program exams.”
