Co-Chair of General Education Program, Professor, American University of Central Asia

Chynarkul S. Ryskulova, Ph.D.(USA) and Candidate of Philological Sciences (Ph.D., Kyrgyzstan) is a Professor and Vice President for Academic Affairs of the American University of Central Asia (AUCA). From 1984 to 1998, she taught English language to Kyrgyz and Russian speaking students at the Kyrgyz National University. She worked at AUCA in various teaching and administrative positions including Dean of Academic Affairs and Coordinator of the Writing and Academic Resources Center from 1998 to 2014. In the academic year 2011-2012, she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study Higher Education Administration at Kent State, and she came back to Kent to do her Ph.D. in the same field in 2014. Returning to Kyrgyzstan in 2019, she served as a Co-chair of the General Education Program at AUCA until September 2023, when she was appointed to the Vice President鈥檚 position. She is one of the four editors of an English鈥揔yrgyz Dictionary and published eleven articles and a book chapter on comparative linguistics and issues of higher education in Kyrgyzstan.

Proudest Accomplishments:

  • I hold two Ph.D. degrees: A Ph.D. degree in Higher Education Administration from 黑料网 (USA) and a Candidate of Philological Sciences (Ph.D.) degree from Kyrgyz-Russian Slavonic University (Kyrgyzstan).
  • I received the P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship twice, in 2016 and 2017. This scholarship supports female graduate students in the US who intend to return to their home countries 鈥渨here the degrees they have earned positively impact people鈥檚 lives.鈥
  • I am a recipient of a Fulbright Senior Scholarship to study Higher Education Administration at 黑料网, 2011-12. I also received four other scholarships for semester, summer, or year-long study in the US and France.  
  • I achieved academic and professional recognition: I received the Badge of Excellence in Education (2014), and Certificate for Scholarly Achievements and Contribution to the Development of Higher Education in Kyrgyzstan (2008) from the Ministry of Education and Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic  
  • I am one of the four editors of an English鈥揔yrgyz Dictionary (2005), and have published eleven articles and a book chapter. I regularly present my research at the Comparative and International Education Society and the Central Eurasian Studies Society
