Academic year 2020-21 brought countless changes to the university and the College of EHHS. Along with these changes came the retirement of beloved colleagues and the welcoming of a new talent of faculty and staff.

Onto the next chapter

Dr. Alexa Sandmann

Dr. Sandmann served as the Director of the School of Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Studies and as a Professor of Literacy for a cumulative 17 years. When asked of her favorite memory of Kent State and the College of EHHS, she says, "All of my best memories are connected with conversations and interactions with KSU faculty and staff. I was blessed to work with so many extraordinary people." Dr. Sandmann retired in October of 2020. As for her next step in life? "I will have to let you know! The coronavirus has definitely reduced the options."

Dr. Mary Dellmann-Jenkins

Dr. Dellmann-Jenkins served as a head teacher, advisor, faculty member, and School Director of the former School of Family and Consumer

Studies, and most recently of the School of Lifespan Development and Educational Sciences for a cumulative 39 years. When asked of her favorite memory of Kent State and the College of EHHS, she says, "I can't really narrow down the 39 years I worked at Kent State to a single favorite memory. I really enjoyed teaching and advising HDFS and GERO undergraduate and graduate students. Working with colleagues and developing long-lasting friendships is also a wonderful outcome of working at Kent State and EHHS."

Dr. Dellmann-Jenkins retired in September of 2020. As for her next adventure? "With COVID restrictions easing up, it will be wonderful to visit family in Wisconsin, North Carolina, California, and Oregon. I also look forward to continuing to work with colleagues on aging related research projects and grants."

Welcome to EHHS, Spring 2021!

Dr. Adam Lockwood

Dr. Lockwood is the new Assistant Professor in the School Psychology program. Dr. Lockwood recieved his Ph.D. in School Psychology from Northern Arizona

University and completed his pre-doctoral internship through Louisiana State University’s School of Allied Health Professionals, and a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) post-doctoral psychology fellowship at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

"What brought me to KSU was the high-quality school psychology program that values inclusion, social justice and evidence-based practice," Dr. Lockwood said. "Additionally, I was drawn by the kind and welcoming faculty."

Dr. Lockwood is most excited to help students become competent, empathetic practitioners. He looks forward to serving as a research mentor to students and to collaborate with KSU faculty on research projects.

Carol Heller

Carol Heller is the new School of Lifespan Development & Educational Sciences Administrative Assistant, who is also working with directly in the Career Technical Teacher Education program. She attended the Bradford Business School in Pittsburgh. She began her career at ºÚÁÏÍø in 2006 in the College of Communication and Information. Since then, Carol has worked in the School of Theater, University Press and Financial Aid. 

"I'm looking forward to tackling the scheduling process and streamlining some of my duties with LDES and CTTE," Carol says. "And continuing to make things as easy as possible for students and faculty working remotely."
