Todd S. Hawley, Ph.D
Biography
Todd S. Hawley is a Professor of Social Studies Teacher Education and Coordinator for Social Studies Education at ºÚÁÏÍø. Todd works to support classroom teachers as professionals and to change the national narrative that schools and teachers are failing. He believes that, in fact, we fail public schools and communities when we allow legislators to cut funding and divert funds to charter and religious schools. His research focuses on transformative, rationale-based social studies teacher education and the power of social issues to engage and prepare activist, socially-just citizens. Todd is the co-editor of Race Lessons: Using Inquiry to Teach about Race in Social Studies and the co-author of the Southern Schooling column for The Bitter Southerner. Before earning his PhD at the University of Georgia, Todd taught high school social studies at North Atlanta High School and at Oglethorpe County High School, both in his home state of Georgia.
