’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosted its first golf outing, “Tee Up for Scholarships,” on May 20 at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna. More than $36,000 was raised at the event for scholarship funds going toward underrepresented and underserved college juniors and seniors.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship fund include first-generation students, students from low-income families; African American, Latino American and Native American (AALANA) students; and students from other minority groups at Kent State.
"This was a fun and exciting event that supported a great cause," says Alfreda Brown, Ed.D., vice president for the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. "I am grateful to every one of our sponsors and players who partnered with us to provide much-needed scholarships to our deserving students."
“The weather could not have been more cooperative,” says Gina Campana, special assistant in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. “It turned out to be a beautiful and exciting day, and a wonderful success.”
Teams could be up to four players, and each player received 18 holes of golf, breakfast buffet, lunch buffet and the opportunity to win awards and prizes from local donations.
Golfers who participated and donated were from businesses in the Kent, Akron and Ravenna areas. The Diversity Advisory Board in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion sponsored the event and assisted in obtaining local sponsors as well as sponsors from across the country.
Sponsors of the event included, the Matlet Group, New York Life, Summa Health System, AG Print Promo Solutions, ASW Global, Delta Dental, Findley Davies, IMG, MC Sign Company and Medical Mutual.
Kent State sponsors included Intercollegiate Athletics; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business Administration; College of Education, Health and Human Services; College of Public Health; Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs; Division of University Relations; Division of Human Resources; and the Foundation.
