Student Media magazines are back in full force. In November, The Burr, A Magazine and Fusion hit the racks with their Fall 2025 issues. This spring, The Kent Stater debuted The Playbook, its first-ever sports preview magazine, now available on stands and online. In 2026, The Kent Stater turns 100. Searchlight was the first student newspaper, beginning in February 1926. A few months later, Searchlight disbanded and was replaced by The Kent Stater, which published its first issue July 29, 1926, under the leadership of its first editor-in-chief, Peg Hayes. Sydney Roche is thriving as a first-year law student at Case Western Reserve University on a full-ride scholarship, and she credits much of her success to the foundation she built at ºÚÁÏÍø. Originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, the 2025 graduate discovered Kent State through a friend's enthusiastic recommendation. Dinner with Friends is a new program hosted by Civic and Community Engagement in the Center for Student Involvement, Kent State Votes, and Undergraduate Student Government that is designed to connect different members of our community—students, faculty, and staff—through engaging, facilitated conversations over dinner. The program’s core idea isn’t about being an expert on any given subject or even producing a plan at the end of the conversation but instead prioritizes the act of conversing and building connections with people you might not ordinarily meet.
