When someone suffers a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or brain tumor, one of the common symptoms is aphasia, a disorder that arises from damage to portions of the brain, usually the left side, that are responsible for language. The University Research Council (URC) reviewed over 80 proposals for the 2017 Research Seed Grant Program.  After a peer review process via five faculty panels in a variety of disciplines, the URC  awarded eight grants of up to $10,000 each in May, 2017 to enable faculty PI's to generate preliminary results in new research endeavors, in order to develop competitive proposals for external grants.
