The 2022 FDA Food Code and The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
This course explores the requirements of the US Food and Drug Administration 2022 Food Code and the provisions of the 2011 Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and includes the FDA’s interactive training video Decoding the Food Code which provides an overview of the 2017 Food Code structure and contents.

- Describe how the FDA Food Code is utilized as a compliance and enforcement tool.
- Recognize how the uniform provisions of the FDA Food Code address issues applicable to the maintenance of a safe food supply.
- Recognize the provisions of the FSMA and how they beneficially impact the food safety system.
- Describe the seven (7) major rules of the FSMA and how they contribute to global food chain safety.

The USFDA publishes the Food Code, a model designed to assists food control jurisdictions at all levels of government, providing them with a scientifically sound technical and legal basis for regulating the retail and food service segment of the industry. Local, state, tribal, and federal regulators use the FDA Food Code as a model to develop or update their own food safety rules and to be consistent with national food regulatory policy.
