Staff Spotlight: Jen Miller

What do you do at Kent State's College of Public Health?

I currently serve as the assistant dean for Student and Accreditation Services. I help oversee all aspects of the student experience from recruitment to Kent State through graduation. I also help to oversee aspects of our accreditation including data analysis and report writing.

 

Why do you like working at Kent State (and in CPH)?

I have been at Kent State for over 16 years and have been in CPH for 11 years. It has been a great experience filled with wonderful people and experiences.

 

What is your favorite part of your job?

Helping students find their passions and helping them reach their goals.

 

What do you like to do to unwind after a busy day?

Spend time with my family and especially my son Andrew.

 

What is the last TV show you watched, or book you read?

My husband and I just finished Stranger Things, Outlander, and I am re-watching ER (from the 90s).

 

What do you do to stay healthy?

Try to be active with my son. We enjoy cooking at home and skiing.

 

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

How to knit or crochet.

 

If you could travel anywhere for one day, where would you go?

Churchill, Manitoba Canada during the annual polar bear migration.

 

What is a quote or motto that best describes you?

Tell us one fun fact about yourself that others might not know about.

I was a ski instructor for 20+ years, I am a ski patroller and have my EMT card in the State of Ohio.

 

What is something that you're looking forward to, personally or professionally?

Defending my dissertation and completing my doctoral journey! (defended August 17, 2022; graduation in December 2022)

 

What advice would you give to CPH students?

To make the best out of your experience, engage with faculty, have fun, work hard and remember we are always here to help you.
