Celebración de los Graduados

This celebration and final Rites of Passage is held to celebrate the accomplishments of all graduating African American, Native American, Latinx, Hispanic and Multiracial undergraduate and graduate students. A senior speaker will provide remarks before students are recognized and bestowed with a cultural stole by a faculty member in their respective college. 


Spring 2025 Karamu Celebration 

The E. Timothy Moore Student Multicultural Center will host an in-person celebration for Karamu Ya Wahitimu/Celebración de los Graduados on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:00pm in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MACC). 

Registration

An email will be sent to all eligible graduates with a link to register in March. Please ensure you are registered to graduate before then. If you do not receive this email, please check your spam folder or email SMC@kent.edu.

Safety Information, Parking, Drop-off, & More! 

 

Inspections

For your safety and the safety of others, guests and their possessions are subject to inspection as a condition of admittance. The university reserves the final decision on all items brought into the venue.

Security will carry out security checks at the entrance of the celebration venue. Our priority is to do this as quickly as possible. Please allow plenty of time to get in the venue for the celebration.

Prohibited Items

Prohibited items include:

  • Animals (other than those used as service animals)
  • Bags (larger than 14" x 14")
  • Large signs
  • Laser pointers (Note: the use of a laser-point device will result in criminal charges and ejection from the ceremony)
  • Strollers
  • Whistles or Noisemakers
  • Weapons of any kind

Smoking is prohibited. Smoking is also defined to include any and all electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes.

Accessibility Seating and Drop-off

Accessibility seating and other reasonable accommodations will be available to guests at Karamu. Guests in need of accommodations should arrive no less than 60 minutes prior to the start of the celebration and see an usher to be seated. Seating in these reserved areas cannot be guaranteed once the celebration begins.
