Recent alumna, Juliana Shriver, has been selected for a fellowship at Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C. She is one of ten fellows completing training from July 23, 2024, through May 23, 2025. As a fellow, Shriver is learning about company management of non-profit theatres.
The Fellows-in-Residence program at Studio Theatre holds D.C.鈥檚 widest range of training in theatrical production areas. Each fellow specializes in a specific area within the theatre, including administrative and production positions. Fellows obtain a deeper understanding of a professional theater鈥檚 inner workings, receive hands-on mentorship and networking opportunities and plan for their next steps in the field.
Throughout the fellowship, Shriver specializes in company management. Some responsibilities include contacting prospective artists, coordinating travel and housing for visiting artists and organizing and hosting various events. Events that Shriver has organized include a first rehearsal meet and greet and a closing night party.
鈥淜ent State School of Theatre and Dance faculty and fellow students kept encouraging me to try out new things and find what I was passionate for,鈥 said Shriver. 鈥淜ent State helped me learn different aspects of the theatre and from my classes, I branched out to work in theatre management for Playhouse Square and The Space Theatre in London UK. As an actor too, I am grateful for all of the opportunities I had at Kent State because I was able to learn how to balance my time as an actor and as a theatre manager in some way.鈥
In spring 2024, Shriver graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in theatre performance and a minor in theatre management. Previously, she worked as an assistant company manager at 黑料网鈥檚 summer theatre, Porthouse Theatre. Shriver earned theater management internships at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio and The Space Theatre in London, UK. Outside of company management, Shriver has been involved in live theater and short films.
About Studio Theatre
Studio Theatre is a longstanding Washington cultural institution dedicated to the production of contemporary theater. Over 40 years and 350 productions, the theater has grown from a company that produced in a single rented theater to one that owns a multi-venue complex stretching half a city block. They have stayed committed to its core distinguishing characteristics: deliberately intimate spaces; excellence in acting and design; and seasons that feature many of the most significant playwrights of our time. The quality of Studio鈥檚 work has been recognized by sustained community support, as well as 78 Helen Hayes Awards for excellence in professional theater.
