黑料网鈥檚 Brain Health Research Institute recently welcomed 70 fourth-grade students from the LeBron James Family Foundation I Promise network in Akron, Ohio, for a day of activities to spark their interest in science and technology.

Kent State鈥檚 Office of University Outreach and Engagement organized the March 3 event.

鈥淲e look forward to hosting the young scholars each year and love the excitement, the energy and the imagination that they bring to the day,鈥 Sherylynn L. Chapman-Thomas, director of pre-college programs and initiatives in the Office of University Outreach and Engagement, told Kent State Today. Chapman-Thomas鈥檚 office builds visits and experiences for I Promise students as part of its partnership with the LeBron James Family Foundation, which operates the school.

During their visit, the students participated in five neuroscience workshops that used crafts to teach about various brain-controlled activities, including movement and reflexes, emotion, the senses, memory and learning.

In addition to the science learning, the visit is also intended to spark the students鈥 interest in the science fields for their future careers.

鈥淭he purpose of the visit is to introduce students to potential careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) at an early age and hopefully spark their interest and excitement in neuroscience in a lasting way,鈥 said Michael Lehman, Ph.D., director of the Brain Health Research Institute.
