The Flashes Vote Festival will take place Sept. 17 on Risman Plaza. Event organizers invite everyone who wants to register to vote, learn more about voting or is just excited about voting in the November elections to attend.

  • The Kent State Votes initiative is working with organizations and departments across campus to help engage and inform student voters in advance of the coming elections. 

  • A space inside the Speech and Hearing Clinic has been renovated to serve as the new Sensory Wellbeing Space where neurodiverse students and their allies can find a welcoming and inclusive environment for gathering or study.

  • Angela Neal-Barnett, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences was recently honored with two awards for her exceptional contributions on the Evergreen Podcasts and NPR Ideastream podcast , an impactful exploration of the health and well-being of Black women in Cleveland.

Student Life

  • Robert Slade said that instead of walking his normal path across the Eastway Dining Hall during his shift one day, he abruptly took a different route, and that small decision put him in the right place to save a life.

  • A student honored the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a display of 2,977 American flags on the campus student green this week.

  • The College of Aeronautics and Engineering unveiled a new way for the Kent State community to relax, destress and get themselves back into the proper headspace. The Mind Space is designed to be an oasis of tranquility accessible to all. It's a personalized and holistic focus to help everyone on campus be successful.

Global Reach

  • A long-term study of butterfly populations in Ohio's Cuyahoga Valley National Park is shedding light on ecological changes and the impacts of human activities on local ecosystems. The study, which has been ongoing since the 1990s, represents one of the longest-running volunteer-driven insect surveys in North America. Experts from Kent State’s Department of Biological Sciences are working to interpret 20-plus years’ worth of data and convey what it means for environmental conservation.

  • For the past month, has hosted 37 international graduate students as part of the Fulbright Pre-Academic Program, a monthlong immersion in American higher education and culture. The group, from 26 countries, arrived on the Kent Campus on July 21 and was scheduled to depart on Aug. 17 to begin their graduate programs at universities throughout the country.  

  • President Diacon speaks with Marcello Fantoni, Ph.D., about Kent State's global presence.
