IN A FLASH: Testing Prehistoric Technology

Michelle Bebber's students using the atlatl

Watch out, prehistoric animals! Students in a class led by Assistant Professor Michelle Bebber, Ph.D., are learning how to use the ancient weapons used by early hunters.

Michelle Bebber, Ph. D., collects some of the unique teaching tools she uses in her classes.

These students are practicing using an atlatl 鈥 an ancient device that allowed prehistoric hunters of lesser strength to throw spears with as much force and velocity as stronger hunters.

Hands-on learning opportunities like this expand the students' experience beyond the classroom and help them develop a deeper understanding of the topics they are studying.
