Kent State Fashion Student Creates Dress Masterpiece from Netflix Envelopes

A 黑料网 fashion student used her passion for design to turn an Akron woman鈥檚 collection of 1,500 Netflix envelopes into a dress masterpiece.

Akron resident Joanna Wilson had collected the iconic red Netflix DVD sleeves for 13 years and wanted to transform her collection into a dress.

鈥淚 imagine it would be great with this water-resistant paper to make something wearable,鈥 Ms. Wilson said in a WKYC-TV interview.

In May, Ms. Wilson shared her vision and collection with WKYC in hopes to connect with someone who was up for the challenge of transforming the envelopes.

Enter Alyssa Hertz, sophomore fashion design student at Kent State, who jumped on the opportunity to create a Rosemary Clooney-inspired dress from the 1954 movie 鈥淲hite Christmas.鈥

Ms. Hertz is no stranger to unconventional fashion designs. In the past, she has transformed items including newspaper and Styrofoam, into full-length dresses.

鈥淚 love doing things that make people do a double-take, something they鈥檝e never seen before,鈥 Ms. Hertz told WKYC.

For two months, Ms. Hertz put the dress together from scratch.

鈥淎fter all those hours of twisting the paper over and over again, it was great to see it finished in front of me and to say that, 鈥業 did that,鈥欌 Ms. Hertz told WKYC.

The project was completed with a photoshoot at the Rosemary Clooney House museum in Kentucky.
