Total Eclipse of the Flash

Kent State staffer Michael Gershe took these photos of Tuesday's full lunar eclipse, also called a "blood moon", out of his Cuyahoga Falls apartment complex from 4:30 to 5:30 a.m. Gershe, a senior advisor in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, is also a photographer at Michael Gershe Photography. This was the last full lunar eclipse until 2025 and lasted about 90 minutes. During a full lunar eclipse, the sun, Earth and moon align and the moon falls completely into the Earth's shadow. This makes the moon appear red, which is why it is often referred to as a "blood moon". Check out more of Gershe's photos of the eclipse below.
