Where on the Web? Explore Kent, Go! Kent State’s Golden Location Showcase

's Explore Kent, Go! web pages give the Kent State community the ability to explore Kent State’s campus, downtown Kent and surrounding cities.

Next in the “Where on the Web?” series, the focal point is the Explore Kent, Go! web pages at www.kent.edu/go.

The Explore Kent, Go! web pages are an introduction to the diverse opportunities offered by the university’s niche area in the Midwest, according to Lin Danes, director of Web Services and Interactive Media at Kent State.

Although the web pages are mainly for prospective and current Kent State students, staff, faculty and family members of students, they also provide value for alumni who have not returned to visit campus in some time.

“We hear time and time again from returning alumni that they are pleasantly surprised to see the amazing growth of both the city of Kent and the Kent Campus,” Danes said.

The Go! site is broken up into four content areas: Explore Campus, Rising College Town of Kent, Beyond Kent and Visitor Information.

The Explore Campus page is the largest section of the site and includes multiple tabs and content areas. It serves as an introductory guide for prospective and current students that can aid in the college decision-making process. It provides resources from major and degree programs available to financial aid options and resume builders.

This section also provides a virtual tour of the Kent Campus and allows visitors to explore the student organizations and clubs that Kent State has to offer.

“For future students, we hope that sharing our golden location is as exciting to them as our academic excellence and beautiful campus, and that they can picture Kent State as their home away from home after high school,” Danes said.

The Rising College Town of Kent page demonstrates the multitude of activities available to visitors in downtown Kent, like dining and shopping options on Main Street. This page also features lodging and transportation options.

“Longing for football season?” Danes asks. “Start a flag football team at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center or tour the nearby Pro Football Hall of Fame. More interested in cultural activities? The Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit, which has been featured around the country, is currently underway in Cleveland. There’s no need for a dull moment – ever.”

Northeast Ohio is home to world-class attractions and activities, and the Beyond Kent page acts as a hub to inform and introduce people to various activities in Kent, Akron, and Cleveland. World-class museums, parks, theaters, sporting events and an international selection of dining options provide numerous options for those in and around Kent.

“When conducting usability tests and focus groups about our website with prospective students and their parents, they shared that information about a university’s surrounding area is important,” Danes said. “They shared – and we listened.”

There is a lot to discover at Kent State, and the Explore Kent, Go! pages give anyone interested in Kent State or Kent, Ohio, the opportunity to find out more.
