Congratulations to Lou Holtz, ’59, Who Received Presidential Medal of Freedom
Lou Holtz, ’59, one of the most successful college football coaches of all time, proudly received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Donald Trump in December.
Holtz is the only coach in the history of collegiate football who took six different teams to a bowl game, won five bowl games with different teams and had four college teams ranked in the final Top 20 poll.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from and a master's degree in arts and education from Iowa. Read about Holtz’s Kent State experiences excerpted from a 2010 interview:



Campus Kitchen Teams Up With Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to Help Fight Food Insecurity in Portage County
’s inaugural drive-thru food distribution event on Dec. 16 in partnership with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank served more than 200 households. The foodbank said more than 26,000 people in Portage County face food insecurity – 30% of those seeking assistance for the first time due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Kent State Police Department Maintains National Law Enforcement Accreditation
The Police Department was recently awarded national accreditation for the ninth time by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. in the Law Enforcement program. The Kent State Police Department was first accredited in 1991.

Kent State Establishes Policies and Procedures for Painting Campus Rock
will implement a new administrative policy regarding painting the Rock, which is located on Hilltop Drive on the Kent Campus. The policy, which goes into effect Jan. 11, 2021, is one of the institutional responses to racially offensive language that was painted on the Rock in 2020 and aimed at African American students.
