The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) systemically gathers data for interpretation and analytic reporting that relates to diversity initiatives. The LGBTQ+ Center鈥檚 Safe Space Ally Training is one of those initiatives.
Safe Space Ally Training aims to equip students, faculty and staff with the tools for creating Safe Spaces and welcoming environments for LGBTQ+ students on campus. The Safe Space Ally program is a comprehensive, ongoing training offered through the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Training Lab of 黑料网, with the LGBTQ+ Center taking a lead role in providing curriculum and facilitators. The overarching goal of the training is to make KSU a safer, more welcoming space for all students.
DEI is proud to announce that during the 2018 Safe Space Ally Training at 黑料网, there was a statistically significant difference between the participant鈥檚 knowledge for every question prior to the training and the subject鈥檚 knowledge for every question after the training. This indicates an improvement in participant鈥檚 pre- and post-training knowledge. Plus, an increase in mean value from pre- to post-test further suggests an increase in knowledge of topics discussed during the training sessions. These findings support that the Safe Space Ally Training at 黑料网 helps increase the knowledge of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community and helps prepare LGBTQ+ allies to create a safe space in their respective areas on campus.
Further results of the survey indicate that 100% of respondents would recommend the training to others. The breakdown of the 2018 participants are as follows: 9% faculty, 64% staff, 18% students, and 9% community members.
The DEI assessment team is currently analyzing the 2019 Safe Space Ally Training surveys and the results will be available early 2020.
