The Homecoming 2022 celebration had one of the largest turnouts that Kent State has ever seen! Many ceremonies, open houses, celebrations and more took place across campus throughout the weekend. There was one event in particular that was extremely meaningful for many in attendance.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, a dedication ceremony was held for the late E. Timothy “Timmy” Moore for the renaming of the Student Multicultural Center, now known as the E. Timothy Moore Student Multicultural Center. Along with his family, a plethora of Moore’s former students, mentees and colleagues were in attendance to commemorate the moment, which was made possible through a donation from mentee and alumna D’Andra Mull, ’02, Ph.D.
Moore, a three-time alumnus and associate dean emeritus in the College of Arts and Sciences and emeritus professor of Pan-African Studies, was the first African American to receive the Kent State Alumni Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award and was twice selected to Who’s Who Among American Teachers. He also received numerous recognitions as an outstanding teacher, including the Distinguished Honors Faculty Award. Prior to his retirement in 2010, Moore was honored by the National Academic Advising Association and received several awards for his lifelong contributions to the university.
As a trailblazer in diversity issues for more than 40 years, Moore was awarded the university’s annual Diversity Trailblazer Award in 2015. Since his passing, colleagues, friends and family have contributed to a scholarship at Kent State in his name. To contribute to the E. Timothy Moore Scholarship fund, please visit the .
