Outstanding Graduate Student Award
Description
The Kent State EHHS Outstanding Graduate Student Award recognizes exemplary contributions by an a graduate student in regards to research and/or teaching.
- Research contributions may be evidenced through publications, conference presentations, and/or external recognition from one鈥檚 professional association.
- Exemplary teaching may be evidenced through faculty observations and/or student feedback (e.g., letters of support, SSI scores).
Eligibility
All currently enrolled graduate students in EHHS (masters or doctoral).
Full-time faculty (TT or NTT) enrolled in graduate study are not eligible for the award.
Nomination Procedure
Nominations may come from the graduate student, a faculty member, or a former student. Nomination packets should:
- Ensure nominee鈥檚 eligibility.
- Complete Nomination Form (PDF)
- Include a 1-page (maximum) statement that identifies the nominee鈥檚 outstanding activities.
- The statement should emphasize which area(s) of contribution are of focus (research and/or teaching). This will inform the committee in regards to the criteria to evaluate the nomination.
- The nominee鈥檚 vita should be included.
- Nominations emphasizing contributions in research should include all current publications (APA formatting is required). Copies of selected publications (no more than 2) should also be included.
- Nominations emphasizing contributions in teaching should include all courses taught as a separate section in the vita.
Service contributions will be weighted as additional evidence in support of primary contributions through research/teaching.
The committee鈥檚 decision on award recipients will be made on the basis of the above materials only.

Note: Nominations can include supplementary, service-related, evidence. This evidence is taken into consideration only when a nominee鈥檚 research and/or teaching has been found to exceed or far exceed expectations. Nominees who demonstrate exceeding expectations in both research and teaching will be considered in a similar manner, with teaching/research considered with more weight than service.
