The College of Podiatric Medicine (KSUCPM) is pleased to announce that Bryan D. Caldwell, DPM, MD, has accepted the position of senior associate dean for Academic Affairs, effective Jan. 4, 2021.
When Vincent J. Hetherington, DPM announced his retirement in September of this year following 32 years at KSUCPM, the daunting task of filling his shoes began. His replacement would need to embody the 鈥渟tudents first鈥 philosophy to implement academic programs that serve student needs and ensure their success at KSUCPM and beyond. Following a long and extensive search that included stakeholders from around the college and the podiatric medical community, Caldwell became the clear choice for the position.
An experienced leader in podiatric medicine, Caldwell had previously served 25 years at KSUCPM. Filling positions of increasing responsibility at the college since 1994, Caldwell rose to become the dean of Clinical Education and Operations before his departure in 2019 to become the Dean of the School of Podiatric Medicine at Barry University. The KSUCPM community is eager to welcome Caldwell back in this new role to help guide the institution鈥檚 academic mission.
A leader in the podiatric medical community, Caldwell is an outstanding teacher and scholar who has earned over $500,000 in research grants over the past decade, and helped write over 20 scholarly publications in his field. A renowned speaker on the international stage, Caldwell is also a respected community member, donating his time to local projects such as the African American Cultural Festival, American Red Cross, Lupus Foundation of America and others.
In his new role, Caldwell will serve as the CPM鈥檚 chief academic officer and second-highest ranking executive officer. He will oversee recruitment, placement, and support of professional faculty, and develop academic standards relative to admissions. In addition, he will serve as liaison to the Council on Podiatric Medical Education to directly oversee all aspects of college accreditation.
Caldwell brings a rich portfolio of experience and extensive knowledge of the podiatric profession, as well as KSUCPM and its educational processes. Additionally, he has the extraordinary opportunity to enhance the strategic direction of the college, its academic programs and the day-to-day training of future physicians.
KSUCPM wishes to thank all those who took part in this selection process for their dedication, energy, and enthusiasm.
Please join KSUCPM in congratulating Caldwell on being selected for this critical role, and thanking him for his commitment to the college.
